Practice Information:
The 4 ‘state of the art’ surgery practice was recently fully remodeled. Your large bright surgery is modern, air conditioned and well equipped. You will benefit from central sterilisation with a full-time decontamination nurse, full R4 computerisation, digital radiography, a hygienist and a team of cheerful, helpful staff including an experienced dental nurse and a receptionist who looks after you and your patients.
The practice aims to support and provide for a wide range of experiences during your FD year including in house CPD events and training, and access to observational sessions with dentists who have additional skills in oral surgery, implantology, facial aesthetics, cosmetic dentistry and endodontics.
Location and Living:
Clevedon is a beautiful Victorian seaside town just over 10 miles from Bristol. Water sports are a feature of the local scene with clubs for canoeing and sailing as well as a variety of other sports such as cricket, rugby and football. Paul Drugan qualified from Cardiff in 1987 and gained a masters in Medical Law in 1197. He has been a trainer for 20 years. He is a GDP with a particular interest in restorative dentistry.
Matthew Thomas qualified from Bristol in 1999 and has been a trainer since 2005. Matthew has a particular interest in prosthetics and endodontics. Outside dentistry Paul enjoys cycling, jogging and walking his dog Bonnie. Matthew loves property renovation and gardening.
Practice Information:
The practice sees a wide range of patients but is primarily a family practice. There are four air-conditioned surgeries with a resident specialist orthodontist and a part-time hygienist and therapist. We are computerised using Software of Excellence’s Exact and Examine Pro fully integrated digital radiography software system. Full nursing and reception support will be provided. The practice has an OPG machine and each surgery is very well equipped and has its own X-ray machine. The practice uses fibre-optic handpieces, ProTaper and Wave One rotary endodontic systems.
Location and living:
The practice is situated in the heart of a busy shopping centre in the outskirts of Bristol. Yate Shopping Centre is an outdoor mall with over one hundred retailers. The practice is surrounded by numerous cafes, shops, banks as well as a leisure centre, cinema and library. Transport links are good with easy access to both the M4 and M5. Blake qualified from Birmingham in 1999 and has worked in the NHS since. He has been a DFT Educational Supervisor for 4 years and is passionate about Foundation Dentistry. He has been in his current post for 6 years. Outside of dentistry he loves baking, and singing & playing guitar in his band, ‘The Desperados’.
Practice Information:
Quedgeley House is part of Rodericks, an expanding corporate. The practice has been here for about 6 years and has a diverse patient base, from long term patients and more challenging high needs patients. As part of Rodericks we also offer additional training days with our own internal FD scheme which runs in parallel to the main scheme.
Location and Living:
Quedgeley is a village that has grown over the years and has a number of opportunities for accommodation. Alternatively, you may want to live in the centre of the city of Gloucester, including the recently developed Historic Docks. You may also choose to live in Cheltenham, a beautiful town famous for its Georgian architecture and Races. The practice is close to the A38 and M5, meaning its only 30 minutes from Bristol.

Deepa has been working as a General Dental Practitioner for 13 years in Bristol. Deepa graduated in India in 1998 and had her own Dental Surgery which she ran for 2 years before coming to the UK. Deepa is looking forward to her third year as a trainer and feels she is fully equipped as she has been helping Renu (who was a trainer previously ) as a colleague in the past few years. Her special interests are Oral surgical procedures and Endodontics. Other than Dentistry Deepa likes playing different sports and just started venturing into yoga and meditation.
Emma qualified from Bristol University in 2011 and has been working as a General Dental Practitioner, firstly in her home town in North Wales for a couple of years before moving back to Bristol and Filton Dental Practice five years ago. She is looking forward to her second year as an educational supervisor. She is currently studying for a diploma in dental studies with Bristol University and has a special interest in restorative dentistry, treatment of anxious patients and sedation. Outside of dentistry she enjoys walking in the countryside and cooking.
Practice Information:
Filton dental practice is a family practice and has been around for over 50 years. We have recently been refurbished completely. We are a predominantly NHS practice servicing approximately 15000 patients with 3 dentists, a FD and our hygienist Erica. Along with families we also service patients working in many of the companies that are in our area such as Rolls Royce, British Aerospace and Orange. The surgeries are very well equipped with a central sterilization room. We have a digital X ray system and also use the reciproc endodontic system. Some of the staff, including Renu Brindle, have been present for over 20 years. Janet and Dawn our wonderful receptionists have been here 15 and 5 yrs respectively. We are a happy, friendly and sociable practice. Agnieszka is our lead nurse and a delightful lady for the FD to work with. She is the FDs full time nurse. As an FD you will have the opportunity to try out everything from emax crowns to cobalt chrome dentures. We are there to make your first year a great experience. Filton dental practice is situated approximately 4 miles from Bristol city centre and Clifton. There is good public transport, bus and train, and we are close to motorway road links. Bristol is a lively and very popular city with a good range of affordable living options. There is onsite parking for staff and patients.

Redland Park is a recently modernized, air-conditioned three-surgery practice. It is fully computerized with digital x-ray system. There is excellent administrative and nursing backup and we have a hygienist, OPT and all surgeries are equipped to a very high standard. Redland Park is a family based practice and we carry out a full range of treatment including IV sedation and implants.

We are fortunate to be situated just off Whiteladies Road in Clifton which has a wonderful combination of tree-lined residential areas adjacent to numerous shops, cafes and bars. Most of our previous FDs have had a 5 -10 min walk to work as they have chosen to live nearby as the Whiteladies Road area is one of the most popular rental areas in Bristol.

Louise qualified from Bristol in 2008, and joined the practice as an ES last year, having also fulfilled the role at her previous practice. She enjoys all aspects of general dentistry but has a particular interest in aesthetic dentistry and treating anxious patients and children. Outside work she enjoys competing in triathlons, and looking after her two young sons.

We are a well-established independent practice and have been training FDs for over 20 years, with a very supportive team. We have a large number of long-standing patients, and also accept many new patients each month, giving the FD opportunity to undertake a wide range of treatment. Winterbourne is a large village situated approximately 8 miles North East of Bristol, and is easily commutable from the city centre, where most of our FDs choose to live. Practice Information:
Stephen took over the Dursley practice in 1996 and relocated to a former doctor’s surgery in 2000. The practice is predominately NHS with nine surgeries, eleven dentists, and a hygienist. You will also be able to work at our practice in Stroud which will provide experience of a different patient base as well as how different practices function. The surgeries are well equipped, spacious and fully computerized with digital radiographs. Both practices also have best practice decontamination suites and are longstanding members of the BDA Good Practice Scheme. We also have an onsite prosthetic's laboratory at our Dursley practice.

The dental practice was established in the 1980’s, Suganthy took the practice over seven years ago and renovated the whole practice three years ago, making it into a bespoke dental surgery. The practice has recently been taken over by BUPA. The practice has four surgeries, which comprises of three dentists and a dental hygienist, it is staffed by an experienced team of nurses. We currently have two nurses who are doing an apprenticeship and are progressing well. The practice have a visiting dentist that provides implant treatment to our patients.
