Educational Supervisor:
Barry Breslin qualified from Manchester Dental School in 2003. This will be his second year as a trainer. He enjoys all aspects of restorative dentistry and is trained in Invisalign, full mouth rehabilitation and the restoration of implants. He lives nearby with his young family and enjoys playing football and attending music concerts when he can.

Practice Information:
This recently redeveloped practice of 4 surgeries will provide you with a fully equipped, air conditioned, ambidextrous surgery and trained experienced nursing and administrative support. We have a fully computerised practice, digital radiography, central decontamination unit, and rotary endodontics. You will be working alongside a hygienist and 2 other experienced dentists. During your FD year the practice aims to support and provide for a wide range of experiences including in-house CPD events and training, and access to observational sessions with dentists who have additional skills in oral surgery, implantology, facial aesthetics, cosmetic dentistry, and endodontics.

Location and Living:
Nailsea is a friendly town in a rural location only seven miles from Bristol city centre. You have the benefit of being able to live either in Bristol or in the surrounding area. There are lots of local countryside walks and nearby is the National Trust’s Tyntesfield House and Gardens. Alternatively Nailsea has four football clubs, a cricket club, hockey club, and running club together with lots of pubs that provide real ales for that important after match drink.

John qualified in 1982 from Bristol and is a well-respected member of the dental community and past Chair and Secretary of Avon LDC.  He is a GDP with particular interests in restorative and periodontal care and has been practicing in Weston super Mare for over 30 years.

John provides personalised support to meet your needs in all areas of the Foundation Dentist curriculum including support with clinical work, audit and completion of your e-portfolio.

Dr Considine qualified from Trinity College Dublin and came to the Southwest to complete her Foundation Training on the Bristol Scheme. She has a keen interest in Paediatric Dentistry and following her FD year, has completed hospital training as a Paediatric House Officer. Alongside being a general dentist, she also provides Facial Aesthetic treatments. She will provide you with the personalised support you require and can utilise her experiences as a Foundation Dentist to guide you through your year successfully, alongside a very supportive team who have many years of experience as a training practice.

Educational Supervisor:
Nick qualified from Bristol in 2016 and has been working at the practice since 2018. He was previously a private mentor and a PLVE (Performers List Validation by Experience) mentor for an overseas-trained dentist applying for an NHS performer number. He enjoys good food, the outdoors and growing vegetables.

Practice Information: The practice is purpose-built with ten well-equipped surgeries on a single floor. We currently have six dentists providing mostly NHS dentistry and three hygienists. Our private dentists and orthodontist have very recently moved to a new Advanced Oral Health Centre, which we have opened in the town. We have no limit to local NHS and private opportunities.

Location and Living: Somerset is known for its picturesque countryside and Bridgwater provides easy access to many natural beauty spots. Rental properties are available within walking distance of the practice but driving is essential if you want to live further out, as public transport is limited. Commuting from Bristol has been done but does involve a lot of driving in unpredictable traffic.

Educational Supervisors:

Carl Fullaway is an enthusiastic GDP who qualified from Bristol and worked as associate in Blandford Forum until he set up the practice at Bathampton. Carl has been an educational supervisor since 2005 and works one day a week as a clinical supervisor at Bristol Dental Hospital. He is a keen supporter of charity and went to Tanzania in 2013 with Bridge2Aid.

Sarah Taylor qualified from Bristol in 2007 and started as an associate at Bathampton in 2011.  She is involved with the local BDA who run an annual conference and other CPD events. Outside of work she has a young family and enjoys cooking and eating good food.

Practice Information:
Bathampton Dental Practice opened in 2003. It is situated within a health centre shared with a medical practice; providing a fully integrated, caring and considerate dental service. We have strong links with the doctors which can be invaluable when seeking advice on patients' medical histories. The practice is fully computerised with three modern surgeries equipped with digital x-rays etc. There is a modern, calming feel to the building with a small garden in the middle. We try to provide a family friendly environment for patients and have a great team of receptionists and qualified dental nurses.

Location and Living:
Bathampton is a lovely village near Bath with a couple of good pubs near the canal (ideal for a walk leading to or from Bath); the village is located off the A36 - Bath to Warminster road. There is unlimited parking around the practice and a regular bus service to and from Bath.

Further Information:

We operate an open-door policy, encouraging our FD to come to us for help and advice. At various points in the year our FDs will spend a bit of time nursing for the trainers, and vice versa; past FDs have found this to be very helpful. We try to ensure that FDs leave with a clear understanding and appreciation of teamwork. We aim to give FDs a gentle start to the year to enable them to get to grips with treatment planning, while getting used to their new surgery and software etc in a supportive low-pressure environment.

We wish to provide ethical, good quality dental care with a considerate approach, encouraging preventative techniques and putting the patient at ease with a laugh or two along the way. We wish for someone with a similar outlook to join us.

Sally is an enthusiastic and supportive Educational Supervisor who will ensure you have a fantastic year with us by providing excellent clinical opportunities and a high level of support.

Sally has been with the practice since 2017 and brings a wealth of clinical experience to the role, having had a very busy mixed NHS and Private book throughout her time here. Having gone through Dental Foundation Training herself in this practice, she knows the curriculum and requirements well and looks forward to supporting future newly-qualified dentist in the early stages of their career.

Sally has been an active member of the team, working at a COVID hub during the pandemic, providing on-call out-of-hours emergency dental services, and working as a locum in a sister practice when required – her flexible approach means she is welcoming of interactive and dynamic working which makes her a great ES.

Sally is friendly, approachable and always on hand to provide any level of support needed, whilst also encouraging independent practice and decision making.

Practice Information:

Chipping Manor has seven surgeries, staffed by a team of six dentists, a hygiene-therapist, a hygienist and a PLVE dentist. Two of our associates are also Training Programme Directors from other nearby schemes so there is a wealth of knowledge and experience always at hand. The practice is predominately NHS and plays a prominent role in the local community and with the dental charity Bridge2Aid. The FD has dedicated support from a team of committed, enthusiastic nurses who have extensive experience working with newly qualified dentists. The surgery is air conditioned and is fully equipped and computerised with digital intra/extra-oral radiographs. There is also the facility to provide relative analgesia, private orthodontics, and GDPSI endodontics at the practice.

The practice is part of the Rodericks group which provides ongoing support and training days for FDs and the potential for career opportunities at the end of the year.

Location and Living:

Wotton-under-Edge is a picturesque market town situated on the Cotswold Way. While easily commutable from Bristol, Bath, Gloucester and surrounding areas, Wotton is not readily accessible by public transport and so if you are living out of town, it is essential that you have your own means of transport and the practice has a private car park solely for staff use. There are limited rental accommodations in the town.

George has worked at the practice since 2013 and loves his role as ES since 2019. Prior to this he had trained 2 EU graduates over the past few years. The practice opened in 2011, and is predominantly NHS practice caring for around 20,000 patients. The practice has recently expanded within the Medical Centre providing Hathaway with 9 Surgeries and is staffed by an experienced team including our dental hygienist. The surgeries are well equipped, modern, and fully computerised with digital radiographs, OPG, iTero scanner.

Location and Living:
Chippenham is a large historic market town about 30 miles from Bristol city Centre. Chippenham has a variety of public transport options into the center, which is about 20-minute walk from the practice. Chippenham is situated on the ‘M4 gateway’ allowing you to choose the right lifestyle for you.

Zanyar was graduated as a dentist in 2001 and has been practicing dentistry in the UK from 2008. He is a GDP with particular interest in implantology, sedation, prosthodontics, and orthodontics. Outside dentistry, he is interested in travelling, football, and spending time with family and friends.

Practice Information:

The practice opened in 2003 and is a predominantly NHS practice with around 20000 patients. It has 8 surgeries with a friendly and experienced team supporting 11 clinicians and 3 dental hygienists, with our prosthodontic lab present at the site. The surgeries are well equipped and are fully computerised with digital radiographs. We also have accommodation available.

Location and Living:
Swindon is a beautiful town in Wiltshire located near M4, between junctions 15 and 16. Swindon railway station is on the line from London Paddington to Bristol. Swindon is an active town known for its strong transport links to the other local towns and cities. Previous FD has chosen to live in Swindon.

Educational Supervisor:
Katie Perkins qualified from Bristol University in 2010 and was awarded the BDA medal for the Bristol division. She did her foundation year at Wylye Valley Dentistry (now Bupa Warminster). After working in private practice in Bath for a few years Katie re-joined Wylye Valley Dentistry as an Associate Dentist. Katie has gained a postgraduate MJDF qualification from the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and has a masters in Advanced General Dental Practice from Birmingham University. She has been a joint educational supervisor since 2016. Katie provides a wide range of dental treatment, including cosmetic treatment and the use of short term orthodontics.
She launched an oral health subscription box in January 2019 to help families create better habits in an attempt to reduce the incidence of childhood caries.

Andrew Morgan qualified at Manchester University in 2009. He will be joining the existing educational supervisor, Katie Davis from 2020. He has worked mainly at Bupa Warminster since qualification. However, during a career break 2016-2018 has worked in multiple NHS practices as a Locum, in between traveling abroad and with a band. He lives in Frome Somerset with his young family, dog, cat and chickens.

Practice Information:
Bupa took over Wylye Valley Dentistry in December 2016. It is a 5 surgery mainly private practice with full time hygienist. The foundation dentist will have access to all the latest equipment and materials. We have rotary endodontics, an endodontic microscope as well as thermal obturation. The practice is fully digital.

Location and Living:
The majority of Foundation Dentists choose to live in Bath, and either commutes via train or drive.

Vinay qualified from Birmingham University in 2003 and was Cheddar’s first Foundation dentist. He continued as an associate and then became the practice owner in 2015. He has been an educational supervisor since 2009. Outside dentistry he enjoys eating out, travelling and spending time with his young family.

Lucy qualified from Bristol in 1998 and joined Cheddar Dental Practice as an Associate in 2002. She has been an educational supervisor since 2016 and is a member of the Somerset LDC. Lucy is a keen runner and cyclist and enjoys an active outdoor life with her young family.

Practice Information:
There are eight surgeries in a large, extended Victorian house. We have over 10,000 appreciative patients and a loyal, enthusiastic and friendly team of staff. We have 7 associates, 4 therapists/hygienists and an excellent team of nurses and receptionists. We offer modern facilities – with air conditioning, digital radiography, rotary endodontics etc - in a bright, spacious, ambidextrous surgery, along with a dedicated decontamination room.

Location and Living:
Cheddar is a pretty, growing village with shops, supermarkets, good schools as well as the popular tourist attractions of the gorge and caves. There are limited bus links to nearby Weston-Super-Mare and Wells. Most of our FDs have been based in Bristol, which is about 35 minutes drive away. We think having your own transport is essential.

Beth Tucker qualified at Bristol Dental Hospital 2011. She is a GDP with a particular interest in preventative and paediatric dentistry. Additionally enjoys helping anxious patients feel at ease when visiting the dentist. Outside of dentistry she enjoys spending time with her family and tending to her allotment.

Practice Information :
Corner House Dental practice is a beautiful grade three listed building. It is staffed by an experienced team supporting 2 dentists and a hygienist offering the opportunity to learn alongside.

The practice is situated in central Bridgwater overlooking the stunning King Square which is a 2-minute walk from the town centre and a short walk to the bus or train station. Easy access to the M5 routes. Most FDs have chosen to live in Bristol, but it is far easier to commute from Bath to the practice. Accommodation in the immediate area is plentiful and much cheaper than the city.
