Aidan qualified in 1991 from Dublin Dental Hospital and joined the practice as an FD soon after. He soon realized that this was a very special practice and stayed on as an associate, becoming a partner in 1999. Aidan became a joint trainer in 2001 with Phillip Irish and when Phillip stepped as-side in 2013, Aidan took on the mantle of sole trainer and has been assisting FDs since then. Outside of teeth, Aidan’s passion is keeping fit and running and has entered several half marathons in the last couple of years trying to better his time each time.

The practice has 4 surgeries including 2 part time Hygienists. We are a friendly well established practice and are fully computerised and run Software of Excellence in the surgeries. Exeter is a very vibrant and ever expanding city, with a young population including 24,000 university students. The city is 30 minutes from the beach and the moors. The practice is located on the edge of the city centre with lots of accommodation in walking distance.

Anthony Ihimekpen qualified from Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry in 2016. Prior to this, Anthony commenced his career as a researcher and University lecturer almost 17 years ago, then became a Biomedical Scientist in the NHS and worked for numerous NHS Trusts around the South East and West Country before pursuing his dental career. He currently is a GDP with particular interest in Restorative dentistry especially in the field of Endodontics and is currently completing a Master’s degree in Endodontics. Anthony is currently secretary for the British Dental Association (BDA) Exeter branch and is part of an Antimicrobial Steering Committee. Outside of dentistry he enjoys sports, travelling and reading.

The practice is a predominantly NHS practice caring for around 3000 patients. The practice has 4 surgeries and is staffed by an experienced team supporting 3 dentists, 4 dental nurses, 2 reception staff and a practice manager. The surgeries are well equipped and are fully computerised with digital radiography, CBCT and a digital scanner.

Exeter is a city in Devon, England, on the river Exe 36 miles northeast of Plymouth and 65 miles southwest of Bristol. It is home to Exeter Chiefs Ruby Club and Exeter City football club. Exeter is a city with great transport links to the rest of the UK and abroad with excellent train links and an international airport.

Laura Akast qualified in 2002 from Bristol and moved to Devon in 2007. The practice underwent a complete refurbishment in 2009. She has a keen interested in restorative dentistry and Invisalign. Outside of dentistry she has 2 young daughters and spends her time with her husband, girls and dog enjoying the outdoors and passion for running.
Laura offers to support her Foundation Dentists by providing the learning environment to support their development to working independently in general practice.
Practice Information:
The practice was established approximately 30 years ago. It has a broad patient basis of NHS, Denplan and Private. The senior associate has an Msc in Implantology from the Eastman and routinely carries out implant work on site. The support staff are committed, hardworking and have all been with us for several years. We have been an FD practice since 2009.
All surgeries have computer EXACT software, rotary endodontics, apex locator, digital radiographs.
Location and Living:
Teignmouth is a busy seaside town with a good mix of people and is within easy access to the lovely beaches and moorland of south Devon. Previous FDs have lived in Exeter, Plymouth and Torquay. There is plenty of free parking available around the practice.

Louise Barlow qualified from Bristol in 1989. She came to Devon to do her VT year before it was compulsory. She enjoyed Devon so much that she hasn’t left. The practice is located in a purpose built building, a former health centre. There are 4 modern surgeries with touch screen computer systems, Exact software and internet access. The staff are friendly and highly experienced and include an associate, current FD hygienist and experienced dental nurses. The ES and FD surgeries are next door to each other allowing immediate access for help and or advice when needed. The practice is at the heart of the local community providing a large patient base which allows a whole spectrum of treatment experiences for a wide age range of people.

Chulmleigh is a town located midway between Exeter and Barnstaple and only 30 minutes’ drive from junction 25 of the M5 motorway. There are a variety of leisure activities within easy access of Chulmleigh. As well as restaurants, pubs and cafes the town has a sports hall with fitness suite, an 18 hole golf course and riding stables. Previous FDs have either rented accommodation in Chulmleigh or chosent to commute from Exeter.

Robert qualified in 2011 and joined Fairfield house as an FD. Previously he worked for 12 years in military hospitals around the country as an ODP. After his FD year at the practice Robert remained as an associate and became a partner in January 2013. His special interest is endodontics.
Robert’s interests outside of dentistry are sailing, coastal rowing and endurance sports.

Rob Mckenna graduated from Birmingham Dental School in 2009 and was an FD on the Exeter Scheme in 2009. He has worked in the practice since 2011 and has completed his MJDF. He has been an FD trainer for 10 consecutive years.
At weekends he enjoys spending time with his family, fishing/walking/ surfing and paddle boarding and likes skiing holidays. Rob also carries out clear aligner treatment at the practice and has an interest in facial aesthetics including all aspects of general dentistry.

We are the longest established practice in the area and are based in the town Centre. We have 8 surgeries and 6 dentists plus an orthodontist and a hygienist/therapist.
