Lorna qualified from Dundee University in 1987 and has been involved in foundation training for the last 9 years. I enjoy all aspects of general dentistry and have completed a PG (cert) in Healthcare teaching and learning. Practice Information:

We are a family run practice and aim to offer the full range of general dental treatments in a friendly environment. In 2010, we moved into our purpose-designed building which accommodates five surgeries, decontamination room, teaching room and staff room. All surgeries are on the same floor and are fully computerised and equipped with modern equipment including digital radiography.

Finley qualified from Liverpool University in 1997. Finley moved to Cornwall in 2002. He has been practice owner/principle dentist since 2006. Finley has extensive oral surgery and general dental experience; his special interests are Implants, Sedation, Anterior alignment, Facial and Dental aesthetics and Oral surgery. Finley has been a trainer for foundation dentists for 9 years and he is also a trainer for Clinical Dental Technicians. Finley is a Dental Representative for the Local Dental Committee, Performance list decision Panel and Managed Clinical Network group for Restorative Dentistry.

Adam Quirke - After graduating in 2012 from Birmingham University Adam worked in general practice in Exmouth for two years. Since then he has done further training in orthodontics and dental implants. He was based in Newquay between 2014 and 2018, where he built on these skills, and is now currently undergoing his postgraduate diploma in restorative and aesthetic dentistry, and undergoing his training to be able to practice sedation.


Practice Information:

New practice relocated in May 2011 into an historic grade 2 listed building designed by Brunel, recently acquired remainder of ground floor to allow for a separate private area, referral centre, facial aesthetics and sedation recovery room and additional surgeries. Many of the original features such as large arched windows, wood beams and stone walls are preserved with views directly over the river. The inspiring layout of the original building incorporates a modern purpose designed dental practice with staff room and changing facilities which is HTM 01.05 Best Practice and CQC compliant. Digital x-rays with OPT, CBCT and Exact Software of Excellence computer system. Surgeries are all on one floor and many directly off the Central Sterilization Room. We are a forward thinking close nit team at Lostwithiel; we have a wide range of experienced support staff that is motivated, caring and patient centred. As a team our aim is to offer high quality dentistry and exceed patient’s expectations.


Location and Living:

The surgery is located in the heart of the historic town of Lostwithiel on the River Fowey on the South Coast which is ideal for sailing, waterskiing and cliff walks near to the beautiful and popular coast town of Fowey. We are about 20 minutes from the North Coast for surfing and wave sports. Lostwithiel is about 15 minutes from Cornwall’s largest town of St Austell and equidistant from the cities of Truro and Plymouth for shopping and nightlife.

Fergus Gill qualified at Liverpool in 1997. He has been a co-trainer for 11 years. He has a particular interest in paediatric and restorative dentistry. Outside dentistry he enjoys cycling, snowboarding and cooking.

Practice Information:

The practice is one of Truro’s original dental surgeries situated in the heart of the city. Adam and Fergus purchased the practice in 2007 and it now has six surgeries, with a mix of NHS and private patients. The practice is staffed by an experienced team supporting six dentists, two hygienists and a visiting dentist with an interest in implants and surgery. The surgeries are well equipped with digital radiography, a separate OPG room and central sterilization.

Location and Living:

Truro is the Cornwall’s capital and has a wealth of local facilities, galleries, bars and restaurants. It has good transport links and is close to the regions famed beaches and water sport locations.

Tom Wagg qualified from Sheffield university and moved to Cornwall to live by the sea. He enjoys general practice, providing a full range of treatment to children and adults, especially minimally invasive approaches. Outside work Tom loves spending time with his 2 small children, 4 guitars and 9 surfboards.

Practice Information:

We expanded the practice over several years of improvement and modernization to four surgeries. Our experienced and friendly staff supports six dentists and one hygienist. The practice is fully computerized and digital radiography throughout. Our latest improvement is the development of our Central Sterilization Unit comprising state of the art equipment and enabling us to comply with “Best Practice” regulations.

Location and Living:

St.Agnes, a pretty village on the north coast of Cornwall near Truro famous for its history of tin mining and its world class surfing. Our previous FDs have enjoyed the wonderful environment as well as the close post graduate venues where study days are held. Truro and Falmouth as well as St.Agnes have been popular places for FDs to live.

Anna graduated from Cardiff University in 2007. She completed her Vocational Training in Cornwall and has worked as an associate dentist in Falmouth. Anna is the principle of Lemon Quay Dental Care at the Treatment Centre. She has gained the cert Ed in healthcare education and is a facilitator at Peninsula and is currently studying a MSc in restorative dentistry.

Sue qualified at Birmingham University in 1990 and entered general practice in Cornwall. She has been an associate at Lemon Quay Dental Care since 2010 and has been appointed joint educational supervisor with Anna since September 2016.

Practice Information:

Lemon Quay Dental Care is the state of the art practice and member of the BDA Good Practice Scheme. Built in 2008, the practice has been purpose designed and was the finalist in the WOW practice design award. It is fully computerised, has lift access for disabled patients, central sterilization, digital radiographs and protaper handpieces.

Adam Randall qualified from Birmingham in 1991. He has been an educational supervisor on ten occasions now. He is a GDP with a particular interest in periodontology and Implantology. Outside dentistry Adam enjoys travel, sailing and an active social life.

Practice Information:

The practice opened in 1993 and is a mixed practice in this lively seaside town. Caring for around 8000 patients, the practice has 4 surgeries, with a visiting endodontist, anesthetist for sedation, max fax surgeon and oral surgeon. The surgeries are well equipped with digital X-rays, rotary endo and fully computerized. The dentists are supported by 3 hygienists. Well-appointed with a gym exclusively for staff.

Location and Living:

Newquay would suit a student interested in a vibrant social life and watersports, with surfing being a particular draw. There are plenty of good quality apartments in the town and we are about a 30 minute drive from Truro. Rock, Padstow and Watergate bay are in easy reach. The beach is a short walk from the surgery.

Ross MacRae qualified at Glasgow in 1983. He has been an educational supervisor since 2011. Ross has a particular interest in FD and DCP training and lectures to various Southwest dental groups. Outside of dentistry Ross is the Secretary of the Padstow Rotary Club, enjoys photography and walking his two Welsh Springer Spaniels.

Practice Information:

A long established busy family practice situated on the ground floor of a converted fisherman’s quayside cottage in the beautiful coastal town of Padstow. Our two surgeries are well-equipped including Reciproc rotary endodontics, Diagnodent, Aquacut/Sylc-jet and intra-oral cameras. They are fully computerised with digital x-rays and Wi-Fi connection. We are staffed by an experienced team supporting the dentists and hygienist.

Location and Living:

Famous for celebrity chefs, restaurants, shops and excellent surfing beaches Padstow is one of Cornwall’s premiere tourist towns. From coastal walks to extreme water sports, every leisure activity is catered for. Padstow is 30 minutes from Truro. Above the practice is a delightful fully furnished two bedroomed flat for the FD to rent, if they wish.

Anita Norgren-Alarcon qualified as a dentist 1983 at Umeå University in Sweden. She has been practising dentistry about 12 years in Sweden, 5 years in Tanzania and 16 years in UK and has a wealth of experience from different cultures and environments. Anita started Central Park Dental Practice 2006. Her special interests are implants, aesthetic treatments including fixed and removable prosthetics and braces. The last few years she has been doing the antisnoring appliance Somnowell and orthodontics using Clear aligners and the fixed orthodontic system “Fast Braces”. Surgical removal wisdom teeth and implant placements are also included in the range of treatments. Over the years several dental nurses at the practice have been trained as professionals. She is looking forward to share her clinical and practical skills to a third foundation dentist starting this September.


Practice Information:

The practice has 3 surgeries, all on ground floor. 2 dentists and 1 hygienists are treating around 6000 patients mainly NHS but also private. All surgeries are well equipped and fully computerised (R4 +) with digital X-rays and intraoral camera. The practice is BDA Good Practice and CQC compliant. Together with a friendly and supporting staff of nurses and receptionists we work as a team, making sure our patients are provided with the best possible treatment and care, in their best interest. We have a separate staff area to relax and feel comfortable at lunchtime as well as used for meetings, courses etc.

The practice is situated near to Central Park, in walking distance to the city and University. The practice has onsite parking as well as on surrounding streets. Other facilities close by are a pub, shops, post office, supermarkets and the “Life Centre” for sports and leisure. Plymouth is a seaside city in the southwest of Devon with about 280 000 citizens. The seafront and Dartmoor National Park give many opportunities for maritime sports and long walks. Monty qualified from Barts and the London Dental School in 2010 and is the Principal Dentist at Orchard Dental Practice. He has been a trainer in the East Midlands as well as the Southwest deanery. Monty has an interest in all aspects of general dentistry and has completed further postgraduate studies in dental education. Monty enjoys being an educational supervisor and provides an environment for a foundation dentist to excel.
In his spare time Monty likes reading, playing football and spending time with his 1-year old daughter.

Sanjay enjoys restorative and aesthetic dentistry and is passionate to transfer skills and techniques in the foundation dentist’s development. He is in his final year of the Restorative Dentistry MSc at the University of Plymouth. Sanjay understands the transition from university to foundation training can be daunting, but with his patient and understanding nature, he aims to support his foundation dentist with the aim for them to enjoy and flourish throughout the year. Sanjay has a passion for teaching with a particular focus of practical hands on sessions to facilitate learning.

Practice:

Orchard Dental is a busy mixed practice, with a mixed skill set of clinicians encompassing general restorative, oral surgery, orthodontics and implants. The practice uses SOE software and digital x-rays. The practice is well-equipped including rotary endodontics, digital SLR cameras, intraoral cameras, Smile Lite MDP.
You will be working in a caring, positive and friendly environment, and all the nurses are experienced in a wide range of treatments to support you as you make the transition to your new environment. The team at the practice are fantastic at dealing with any questions or problems you have, and because the team is big, you will never feel alone or unsupported during your foundation year.

Location and Living:

Plymouth has the benefit of being next to the coast with easy access to beautiful beaches in South Devon and Cornwall, which have golden sand and crystal clear water, and many are the perfect surfing location. Plymouth is also next to the beautiful Dartmoor National Park which provides stunning landscapes and scenery for walking and cycling. If the beach or walking are not your thing, you will never be shy of a Cornish pasty or a cream tea to sit and devour! Plymouth also has many bars and restaurants, and there are good public transport links available so dependent on your location driving is not always necessary and airports and trains are easily accessible. However, with so much to see down here, a car would be helpful to ensure you see all the sights and make the most of your foundation year.

Sacha Young qualified from Guy’s in 1994 and has enjoyed being an ES for 12 years. She particularly likes being a general practitioner seeing a wide variety of patients, managing her practice and has recently achieved a Diploma in Management. She also spends one day per week as a clinical supervisor at the Peninsula Dental School with which she has been involved from its’ inception. Sacha also works in Derriford Hospital as a restorative clinical assistant. Outside of dentistry Sacha is a keen cook, gardener and would never be without her three dogs.

Practice Information:

The practice was established in 1968 by Sacha’s parents. Sacha bought the practice in 2006 and since then has grown it into an eight-chair NHS practice caring for approximately 24000 patients; the practice is never short of work. We have a very close-knit team and the practice still retains its friendly family atmosphere. During the time Sacha has had the practice she has refurbished it throughout. The FD surgery is right handed only and had new equipment in 2013.

The practice is situated in the city centre of Plymouth close to the university. There are good public transport links however a car is useful if you wish to take in Dartmoor National Park, which is on our doorstep. We are very spoilt with the variety of water sports on offer being a costal naval town and we even have a ski slope. Plymouth is a vibrant university town and accommodation is no problem.

Educational Supervisors:

Louise Hopper qualified from Bristol in 1995 and completed a PhD in child dental health and primary care research from the University of Manchester in 2009 and was grand-parented onto the GDC specialist list for Special Care Dentistry in 2010. Louise has an interest in treating adults and teenagers using sedation, and in providing high quality dentistry for people with additional needs.
Commencing foundation dentist training in the Community Dental Service in Plymouth in 2018, Louise has also been a DF2 trainer, worked with colleagues to increase their skills and knowledge of community dentistry and sedation as well as lecturing and teaching chairside dentistry to undergraduates and DCPs. Outside of work she enjoys reading, gardening, cycling and messing about in the sea and beautiful countryside around Devon and Cornwall with her family.

Suzanne Sykes qualified from Cardiff in 2009, and has since worked for the Royal Navy, in NHS practice and CDS. She started working for Plymouth Community Dental Services as a Special Care dentist and lead for Clinical Governance in 2018 and continues ad hoc work for the Care Quality Commission as a Dental Specialist Advisor. Suzanne is an elected FGDP board member representing the South West and is actively involved with Devon LDC.
Outside of work, Suzanne is a Scout leader, and enjoys being in the great outdoors whenever possible.

Practice Information:

This post is within Plymouth Community Dental Services, supported by 2 educational supervisors. The FD will be providing a full range of primary dental care to NHS patients, working alongside general and specialist dentists (including oral surgery, paedodontics, special care dentistry and sedation). Clinicians are supported by dental therapists and a team of experienced dental nurses. There is a strong collaborative working ethos with a positive culture of learning and development, striving to deliver a high quality service. The clinic itself is located close to the city centre with good access via private and public transport.


Location and Living:

Plymouth is a lively city with numerous events and festivals throughout the year. It sits close to superb coast and country-side, catering for almost any outdoor activity you could imagine. She is currently in the final year of a Masters in Restorative Dentistry at Plymouth University. She has experience in supervising final year dental students on clinic and was a joint Educational Supervisor in 2018/19. Mili understands the transition from Dental School to Dental Practice and will provide a learning environment for her FD to flourish.
Mili enjoys working with Invisalign and composite, she keeps up to date with current knowledge and has recently completed composite courses with Dr McLean and Dr Affan Saghir in London.
