Dental Study Leave main page

Medical study leave was brought in-house by Health Education England from April 2018 following concerns raised through the junior doctors contract negotiations. Although Dental study leave was originally outside of this scope we have made a decision to bring Dental study leave in-house from September 2018. This will allow the HEE SW Dental team greater flexibility and give us the ability to deliver cost effective study days that will support your curriculum requirements.

From September 2018 all study leave applications will still need to be approved at local level by an educational supervisor and rota manager, then forwarded to the HEE Dental team for final approval. As we move to a paperless office all applications and expenses will need to be emailed to the dental team, paper based applications and expenses will be returned.

Please use the following flow chart to assist with your claim:

We appreciate that you may already have leave booked following the old study leave system within your trust, therefore we will honour these requests and they will be approved until the end of January 2019. We will still require you to complete and submit a study leave application for these so that we can log the details on our database. If you have prior approval from your current trust process then please attach this with the new HEE form rather than chasing your approvers for another signature.
This is a new process so we may have to tweak and refine over the course of the next year but we do hope that the process will be as straight forward as possible and allow greater access and flexibility to the study leave budget.

Please see the guidance page for full list of supporting documents.

All trainees please submit applications for all study leave including mandatory courses
