Anthony Ihimekpen qualified from Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry in 2016. Prior to this, Anthony commenced his career as a researcher and University lecturer almost 17 years ago, then became a Biomedical Scientist in the NHS and worked for numerous NHS Trusts around the South East and West Country before pursuing his dental career. He currently is a GDP with particular interest in Restorative dentistry especially in the field of Endodontics and has recently completed a Master’s degree in EndodonticsAnthony is currently secretary for the British Dental Association (BDA) Exeter branch and is part of an Antimicrobial Steering Committee. Outside of dentistry he enjoys sports, travelling and reading. 

Practice Information: 
The practice is a predominantly NHS practice caring for around 3000 patients. The practice has 4 surgeries and is staffed by an experienced team supporting 3 dentists, 4 dental nurses, 2 reception staff and a practice manager. The surgeries are well equipped and are fully computerised with digital radiography, CBCT and a digital scanner.

Exeter is a city in Devon, England, on the river Exe 36 miles northeast of Plymouth and 65 miles southwest of Bristol. It is home to Exeter Chiefs Ruby Club and Exeter City football club. Exeter is a city with great transport links to the rest of the UK and abroad with excellent train links and an international airport. 
Other FDs have found the city and lifestyle affordable and sociable because of the buzzing student and university feel of the city. Nearby Dartmoor and Exmoor offer quiet retreats and access to numerous nearby beaches are also a welcome getaway.

Educational Supervisors: 
Simon qualified from Liverpool Dental School and has a specialist interest in orthodontics. He places implants and enjoys and excels in oral surgery. He has 5 children and enjoys playing golf and watching rugby. 

Practice Information: 
The practice is very well established with a Private and NHS list, taking on new patients every week. It is a BDA good practice and has three surgeries, welcoming staff and friendly patients. It offers a new modern air conditioned surgery with fibre optics, fully computerised and digital radiography. It has an OPT, digital SLR camera, rotary endodontics, fully trained and qualified support staff with a part time Hygienist. 

Location and Living: 
Wincanton is a rural town with excellent road links just off the A303. It makes London a 2 hour road trip, with Bath and Bristol just 50 mins away. They are commutable but this will add to your working day. It has close rail links, but ideally your own transport is recommended.

JDFCT Year 2 Practice 

Please note: This position is linked to the SW 2 year JDFCT post. It is therefore allocated to those Foundation Dentists in their year 2 rotation of this scheme. 

 

Educational Supervisor:  

Esther Angseesing qualified in Bristol in 1992, where she also took her DPDS, and has worked in the South West ever since. She has been a trainer since 2011. Esther's approach is to provide a supportive training environment, where the FD can flourish. The FD is encouraged to develop and learn, but can rely on the backup of the whole practice team. When not working, Esther enjoys photography, rock music and food & drink (especially from her allotment).  

   

Practice Information:  

Quantock View Dental Centre moved to its brand new, state-of-the-art facilities in April 2017. It's a friendly, five-surgery practice that offers a mixture of NHS, private and Denplan treatment. Like its sister practice in Minehead, the practice is fully computerised, with new, well-equipped surgeries featuring Kavo equipment, Digital Radiography including OPG and Reciprocating Rotary Endodontics. The FD will have the support of a dedicated, qualified and experienced dental nurse, as well access to hygienists. We have two restorative specialists, offering a referral service for restorative and implant services, and also offer Invisalign treatment. The FDs are encouraged to observe our professionals while they carry out this work.  

   

Location and Living:  

Bridgwater is a busy town on the South West coast, with fast road and rail links to Taunton to the South, Bristol to the North, and easy access to the whole of the South West. The practice is just a few minutes from junction 24 of the M5 motorway, at the Bridgwater Gateway business hub. Some dentists live in or near Bridgwater, but recent FDs have all commuted from Taunton.

Andrew Curtis qualified from Cardiff in 1996 and has been involved in Foundation training since 2010. He is a GDP with particular interest in conservation and endodontics. To preserve his sanity, outside of dentistry he enjoys rural pursuits and singing. 

  

Practice Information: 

Castle View is a mixed NHS and private practice caring for around 13000 patients. The 6 surgeries are used by 6 dentists, plus 2 hygienist/therapists and a TCOWe are an experienced, friendly and social team. We are fully computerised, with digital intra and pan-oral radiography, NiTi rotary endodontics and apex location, iTero scanner and a dedicated decontamination room.  

  

Location and Living: 

Tiverton is a small market town 7 miles from the M5 at Junction 27 with excellent rail services from Tiverton Parkway station and within easy reach of Exeter, Taunton, Exmoor, Dartmoor and the North and South Devon coasts. Most previous FDs have lived in Exeter, approx 15 miles away.

Tim qualified from Cardiff in 2009 and became a partner in the practice in 2011. He enjoys all elements of general dental practice but particularly enjoys aesthetic dentistry including Invisalign. Outside of work he enjoys squash, golf and bee keeping. He takes a fairly relaxed but supportive role as a foundation trainer and has been a trainer since 2014. He is always available to help out no matter what the problem or question.   

  

Parth graduated in 2018 and been working at the practice since, first as an FD and now an associate. He also works as a senior community dentist and enjoys all aspects of dentistry, especially pediatrics and special care. Outside dentistry he enjoys the Devon country-side and is an avid gamer.

The practice opened the doors of its brand-new, purpose-built premises in January 2012 which provided a modern light and spacious environment in which to work. All six surgeries are fully computerised along with digital radiography. We have a dedicated and experienced team of nurses who have several years of experience assisting foundation dentists and are happy to offer support and advice when needed.   

  

Location and Living:   
Axminster is located a short distance away from the World Heritage Jurassic coast and is easily commutable from both Taunton and Exeter which is where most of the previous FD’s have lived. It is advantageous to have your own transport but not essential. We are happy to help you find suitable accommodation should you wish.

Camilla qualified from Peninsula Dental School in 2018 and has been working as a GDP in Dorset since. Camilla has a keen interest in minor oral surgery and aesthetic dentistry. She also runs an oral health prevention programme across primary schools in her local area. Alongside dentistry, Camilla enjoys fitness, especially cycling and swimming, regularly taking part in triathlons. She also enjoys travelling and cooking.

Andre Louw has qualified near Cape Town and has been a Dental Foundation Educational Supervisor for 14 years. He achieved the DPDS qualification at the University of Bristol with modular studies in Crown and Bridge, Restorative Dentistry, Periodontics and Tooth wear. He has a particular interest in Oral Surgery, Invisalign and Aesthetic Dentistry. He also has experience in Implant Placement and Restoration 

 

 Practice Information:  
The practice has recently relocated to a brand new converted building consisting of six individually designed surgeries. The FD surgery has a new Adec ambidextrous chair and cabinetsThe practice is fully computerised and the air-conditioned surgeries are well-equipped with Kavo equipment, Digital Radiography, and Reciprocating Rotary Endodontics. The FD is supported by an experienced qualified dental nurse, dental colleagues and a hygienist.

Minehead is a popular coastal town 20 miles from Taunton and forms the gateway to the Exmoor National Park. The Practice is in the town centre close to a sandy beach. The town is popular amongst hikers and holidaymakers and forms part of the Southwest Coastal Pathway.

Selina graduated from Birmingham in 2008 and has worked at Dulverton Dental Practice since then after completing her Vocational Training year there. She has been a trainer for 4 years, and is looking forward to supporting you in all areas of the Foundation Training Curriculum. Selina has a passion for restorative dentistry, having recently completed a Diploma in Restorative dentistry at the Eastman Dental Institute in London. Outside dentistry, she is married with 4 children and she enjoys painting, hiking and time at the beach with family.

Emma graduated from Cardiff in 2003 and has worked in the South West for 21 years, the last 5 years at Dulverton Dental Practice. She enjoys being a GDP and is a new trainer for this year alongside Selina, but has assistedFD's in past associate roles for over 15 years, and enjoys helping them to build confidence and skills. She is married with one child and enjoys walking and watching rugby 

 

Practice Information: 

The practice has been serving the dental needs of the local towns and surrounding rural communities for over 40 years. The practice moved to the first floor of a new, purpose-built medical center in 2009. The practice has 4 surgeries that are modern and well equipped and a central sterilisation area. There are currently 3 dentists here to offer their experience and support. There is also a hygienist and an DwSI in orthodontics who provides NHS and private orthodontic treatment at the practice. We are proud to offer an enthusiastic, friendly and experienced support team and both Selina and Emma are approachable and encouraging Trainers. The practice has previously been a training practice and is well placed to offer an encouraging and enjoyable Foundation year. 

 

Location and Living: 

Dulverton is a pretty and historic town and a gateway to the beautiful Exmoor National Park. The local area offers unrivalled access to plenty of outdoor pursuits and is within easy reach to the wonderful coast. Public transport is limited so having your own transport is essential. Previous FD’s have tended to commute from around the Taunton area, which is 45 mins away. Exeter is possible though a slightly longer commute.

North Petherton Dental Surgery mainly treats NHS patients; it is a busy and popular village practice. Rodericks acquired the practice in 2012 and has refurbished and extended the facilities. The practice has three surgeries, all of which are computerised with digital radiographs, and a hygienist. Rodericks has a fantastic clinical support structure and a wealth of experience training foundation dentists.

The 4 ‘state of the art’ surgery practice was recently fully remodeled. Your large bright surgery is modern, air conditioned and well equipped. You will benefit from central sterilisation with a full-time decontamination nurse, full R4 computerisation, digital radiography, a hygienist and a team of cheerful, helpful staff including an experienced dental nurse and a receptionist who looks after you and your patients.
