Emma qualified in 2012 at Peninsula Dental School. Her background is as a dental technician and in business. She is passionate about all aspects of restorative dentistry, achieving the highest qualifications in oral surgery and dental implantology through international studies. She has recently retired from her role as associate specialist in restorative dentistry at Torbay Hospital.
Emma is absolutely committed to supporting her colleagues to succeed and previously worked for three years as a clinical supervisor at Peninsula.
Practice Information:
We are a long-established predominately private and Denplan practice with an excellent reputation in the area. There are four beautiful surgeries, all fully computerised with digital radiography, intraoral cameras and patient screens, a cbct scanner and an intraoral scanner. Our highly skilled, experienced and happy team is dedicated to patient care.
Location and Living:
South Devon is a stunning combination of beautiful coastline and rugged moorland. It is popular for watersports, blue flag beaches and offers both quiet country pubs and lively nightlife. The cities of Exeter and Plymouth are a short drive. If you like rugby, Exeter Chiefs is a 25 minute drive from the practice! There are excellent rail and road links. Sanjay enjoys restorative and aesthetic dentistry and is passionate to transfer skills and techniques in the foundation dentist’s development. He has recently completed the Restorative Dentistry MSc at the University of Plymouth and is an Invisalign Full provider. Sanjay understands the transition from university to foundation training can be daunting, but with his patient and understanding nature, he aims to support his foundation dentist with the aim for them to enjoy and flourish throughout the year. Sanjay has a passion for teaching with a particular focus of practical hands on sessions to facilitate learning.
Practice Information:
Nuvo Dental is a busy mixed practice, with a mixed skill set of clinicians encompassing general restorative, oral surgery, orthodontics and implants. The practice is an Invisalign Platinum provider. The practice uses SOE software and digital x-rays. The practice is well-equipped including rotary endodontics, digital SLR cameras, intraoral cameras, aquacare, facebows and articulator, and iTero intraoral scanner.
You will be working in a caring, positive and friendly environment, and all the nurses are experienced in a wide range of treatments to support you as you make the transition to your new environment. The team at the practice are fantastic at dealing with any questions or problems you have, and because the team is big, you will never feel alone or unsupported during your foundation year.
Location and Living:
Plymouth has the benefit of being next to the coast with easy access to beautiful beaches in South Devon and Cornwall, which have golden sand and crystal-clear water, and many are the perfect surfing location. Plymouth is also next to the beautiful Dartmoor National Park which provides stunning landscapes and scenery for walking and cycling. If the beach or walking are not your thing, you will never be shy of a Cornish pasty or a cream tea to sit and devour! There are good public transport links available.

Louise Barlow qualified from Bristol in 1989. She came to Devon to do her VT year before it was compulsory. She enjoyed Devon so much that she hasn’t left. She is a GDP who enjoys all aspects of dentistry and all age groups and has been an ES since 2007. Her interests outside dentistry include walking the dog, going to gigs and spending time with her family.

The practice is located in a purpose built building, a former health centre. There are 4 modern surgeries with touch screen computer systems, Exact software, digital radiographs and internet access. We also have rotary endodontic motors, apex locator and digital scanner. The staff are friendly and highly experienced and include the current FD, a dental therapist, a hygienist and experienced dental nurses. The ES and FD surgeries are next door to each other allowing immediate access for help and or advice when needed. The practice is at the heart of the local community providing a large patient base which allows a whole spectrum of treatment experiences for a wide age range of people.
Location and Living:
Chulmleigh is a town located midway between Exeter and Barnstaple and only 30 minutes’ drive from junction 25 of the M5 motorway. There are a variety of leisure activities within easy access of Chulmleigh. As well as restaurants, pubs and cafes the town has a sports hall with fitness suite, an 18 hole golf course and riding stables. Previous FDs have either rented accommodation in Chulmleigh or chosen to commute from Exeter.

Matford Dental Clinic is situated in Marsh Barton Business Centre in Exeter, 5 minutes’ drive from the town centre. A high standard of equipment includes full computerisation, fibre optic handpieces, apex locator and rotary endodontics. Dental microscope will be available in a very close future.
Location and Living:
Exeter is a city brimming with history and heritage, with many visitor attractions. There are direct trains from Exeter to many destinations throughout the UK. Frequent direct services operate from Exeter to London's Paddington and Waterloo stations, as well as to Birmingham and beyond. There are bus connections but own transport will be beneficial, free parking is available.

Sammy qualified from Cardiff Dental School in 2018, and took on the role of Educational Supervisor in 2023. He also works in Exeter at Peninsula Dental School as a Clinical Supervisor. Sammy holds an MSc in Oral Surgery and is also qualified to provide implants, inhalation sedation and intravenous sedation.
Cristina is originally from Portugal where she qualified in 2015; she has been in North Devon since 2016 working as a general dentist. She’s passionate about all aspects of dentistry but has special interest in nervous patients, children and oral surgery. Cristina is looking forward to her new role as an ES, supporting the next generation of dentists, alongside Sammy Holt who is an existing ES at the practice.
Practice Information:
We have a large 8 surgery modern practice providing dental care for the local community. In addition we are a referral centre for a wide range of additional services including implantology, orthodontics, oral surgery, sedation, and domiciliary care. The team is fully committed to post-graduate education and considerable support will be given to the trainee in developing their career pathway.
The surgeries are equipped to an extremely high standard, fully computerised and all have digital radiography, a Gendex CBCT scanner and two Trioss Digital scanners.
Location and Living:
Torrington is a small friendly market town in North Devon. It is handy for the coast, being less than half an hour away from the beautiful surfing beaches of the North Devon coast. Inland is the beautiful Devonshire countryside with Dartmoor or Exmoor less than an hour away. Previous FDs have lived in Torrington or opted for one of the larger nearby towns of Bideford or Barnstaple. Public transport is limited so having your own transport is preferable.

Rob Mckenna graduated from Birmingham Dental School in 2009 and was an FD on the Exeter Scheme in 2009. He has worked in the practice since 2011 and has completed his MJDF. He has been an FD trainer for over 11 years.
At weekends he enjoys spending time with his family, fishing/walking/ surfing and paddle boarding and he also enjoys skiing holidays. Alongside all aspects of general dentistry, Rob also carries out clear aligner treatment and has an interest in facial aesthetics.
Practice Information:
We are the longest established practice in the area and are based in the town Centre. We have 8 surgeries and 6 dentists plus an orthodontist and a hygienist/therapist. We have a very friendly dental team and are all willing to help our new graduates that join our team. We undertake all aspects of general dentistry including implants and orthodontics. The FD’s surgeries are modern and fully equipped to a very good standard. The practice is fully computerized and we use exact/ SOE as our dental system. The practice has integrated digital radiography. We have Intraoral scanners readily available. We treat a broad mix of private/NHS patients.
Location and Living:
Bideford is a pretty port and market town 40 miles from Exeter. It is close to the North Devon coast with its surfing beaches and beautiful coastal path. It has all the usual amenities one would expect in a small town. Previous FD’s have preferred to live locally, sometimes with other FDs from neighboring North Devon training practices.

Robert qualified in 2011 and joined Fairfield House as a Foundation Dentist. Prior to this, he spent 12 years working in military hospitals across the country as an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP). Following completion of his Foundation Year, Robert remained at the practice as an associate and became a partner in January 2013. In 2020, he became the practice owner. Rebecca Hammond qualified at Leeds University in 2005. Rebecca has worked in the community, hospital settings and at a secure setting. Rebecca is a GDP with a particular interest in sedation and oral surgery.

The Practice opened in 1972 and was formerly known as Lynbridge House. Dartmoor Dental has an exempt NHS contract as well as seeing patients on a private fee basis. The Practice has 8 surgeries, that have all been refitted with brand new equipment, a brand newstate of the art decontamination room and an OPG/CBCT machine.
We have 13 clinicians, including 6 dentists, an implantologist, 3 hygienists and 3 therapists. We pride ourselves on being a friendly team and find foundation dentists an asset to the practice.
Location and Living:
Tavistock is an ancient stannary and market town within West Devon, England and is the home of cream tea. It is situated on the River Tavy and has direct access to Dartmoor, which is fantastic for walking, cycling or riding. Tavistock is a friendly and thriving local town, that hosts many independent shops and quirky cafés.
National cycle route 27, Drakes Trail and the West Devon Way to Plymouth are all easily accessible from the town centre and Plymouth is just a 35 minute drive away. The practice has staff parking and the bus station is just behind the building, where the number 1 links us to Plymouth city centre.
