About the Exeter Scheme

The Exeter FD Scheme covers a wide geographical area as indicated above. There is inevitably some year on year variation with regard to the specific practices included as a consequence of the competitive nature of the Trainer appointment process.

FDs can be assured of a warm welcome in the South West and an excellent choice of location, from vibrant city centre to trendy coastal surfing venues. We have an enthusiastic, dedicated and experienced group of Trainers who are prepared to go the extra mile ( a 'Devon mile' is generally accepted to be longer than the standard UK version!) to provide a supportive and unforgettable introduction to our profession.

The study day course covers a wide range of topics and aims to enhance and supplement undergraduate learning whilst actively seeking to avoid its repetition.

There are a wide range of extra-curricular activities available, often Trainer led and supported. Recent FDs have, for example, participated in surfing, clay pigeon shooting, karting, riding and sailing - all within the immediate area.

It is note worthy that the overwhelming majority of recent FDs have chosen to remain within the locality after their FD year.

Devon is not a holiday destination with out good cause, beautiful scenery, great surf beaches and yet at its heart a vibrant city with great night life for those that want it. Forget the big cities, the Exeter scene can offer a lot more.
